Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between Department of Dyes and Chemicals Engineering, Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) and Strategic Alliance on Sustainable Chemicals and Environmental Management (STA); represented by GIZ.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between Department of Dyes and Chemicals Engineering (DCE), Faculty of Textile Chemicals Engineering, Bangladesh University of Textiles (BUTEX) and Strategic Alliance of Chemical and Environmental Management (STA), whose member is German Development Corporation GIZ, Rewe, Tchibo, develoPPP.de on 30th July, 2018 at BUTEX Conference Room. Prof. Monirul Islam, Registrar (Additional charge) on behalf of BUTEX and Dr. Rodney Ernest Reviere, Programme Coordinator, Promotion of Social and Environmental Standards in the Industry (PSES), on behalf GIZ has signed the agreement. Prof. Engr. Mashud Ahmed, Honorable Vice Chancellor of BUTEX, Prof. Dr. Engr. Md. Zulhash Uddin, Dean, Faculty of Textile Chemicals Engineering, BUTEX, Prof. Dr. Mohd. Forhad Hossain, Head, Department of Dyes and Chemicals Engineering, BUTEX, Dr. Ummul Khair Fatema, HEST Coordinator & Head, Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, BUTEX, Dr. Mohammad Abbas Uddin (Shiyak), Assistant Professor, DCE, BUTEX, Mustafijur Rahman, Lecturer, DCE, BUTEX, Mr. Waliur Rahman, Advisor, Academic Network, German Bangladesh Higher Education Network for Sustainable Textiles and Mr. Mohammad Omar Faruq, Advisor, Chemical & EMS, PSES were present during signing ceremony. Dr. Mohammad Abbas Uddin (Shiyak), Assistant Professor, DCE, BUTEX has coordinated this agreement between GIZ and BUTEX.
The agreement is for three years, from 2018 to 2020. There will be six training sessions in these three years for Faculty members and Students with a potential to be “Master Trainer” upon achieving certain expertise. On the first tranche, 25 BUTEX Faculty members will be trained on 4 days chemical management which includes a field visit to have hands on experience. Dr Jürgen Hannak will be the main trainer along with other co-trainers. Prof. Harald Schönberger and Prof. Schrott will conduct a seminar on wastewater and sludge including presence of stakeholders such as BGMEA, BKMEA, Department of Environment, Brands etc.
There will be opportunity to run joint workshop with Sustainable Apparel Coalition, Zero Discharge Hazardous Chemical and Amfori in future.
